Professional Development Books

Just in case you are wondering what type of professional development books I am reading.

Teach Like A Pirate - Dave Burgess

If your child comes home and tells you about unusual ways of learning history, then this book is the reason. Teach Like a Pirate started the creative juices flowing. This is why your child might describe a history class that is different. They may speak of going on journeys through different time periods (Paleolithic hunts, etc.) or costumes or food or ...... (Don't want to let out all my surprises).

The Energy Bus - Jon Gordon

The theme of The Energy Bus is the same as The Secret, positive energy will produce positive results; negativity will breed negative results. If we would focus on the positive, instead of the negative, imagine the world of possibilities inside and outside of the classroom.

Teach Like Finland - Timothy Walker

The tag line of this book is "33 Simple Strategies for Joyful Classrooms." The strategies can easily be incorporated to create a student-centered classroom. If you are unfamiliar with a student-centered classroom, it is where students take ownership of the learning. Less talk and chalk from the teacher, more active learning from the student.

Shift This - Joy Kirr

This book is written by a classroom teacher, who gives practical shifts to make a classroom more student centered. Any teacher can change their classroom for the better by making small changes that have a big impact.

There are many other books have read and are on my to be read list. The best ones are listed on my educational blog.
